LOW INCOME ENERGY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (LIEAP)
The Low Income Heating Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) provides financial compensation for households to pay heating bills. LIEAP is available each year from October 1st through May 15th.
It is important for FEM Electric members to know that LIEAP does not pay the full cost of a family's utility bill. However, the program is designed to assist families who might otherwise be unable to pay the full cost of heating their homes. Call 1.800.233.8503 or visit DSS - Low Income Energy Assistance to apply.
ENERGY CRISIS INTERVENTION PROGRAM (ECIP):
ECIP is the emergency component of LIEAP. To qualify for ECIP heating funds, the household must meet income guidelines AND be in a crisis situation. Crisis situations include residents that have received a utility disconnection notice or have an eviction notice for non-payment if heat is included in the rent. Call 1.800.233.8503 for more information.
WEATHERIZATION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (WAP):
The Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) helps households overcome the rising costs of heating by making homes more energy efficient. WAP is operated at the local level by community action agencies or other assistance groups.
The Northeast SD Community Action Program (1.605.698.7654) serves residents in this area. Or visit the GROW South Dakota Resource Library for more information.
